Overview

Body Cam On and Crime Files Network, home of Atlanta Crime Files and Georgia Crime Files, publish public records, law enforcement footage, incident reports, court records, case files, and related materials obtained through lawful public record sources, including the Georgia Open Records Act and other public records systems.

We take removal, correction, and redaction requests seriously. Every complete request is reviewed individually and carefully.

Please read this policy before submitting a request so you understand what we may review, what we generally do not remove, and how the review process works.

What We May Consider for Removal, Redaction, or Review

We may review requests involving the following circumstances:

Private Individuals Not Central to the Case

If you are a private individual who appears incidentally in a public record, video, image, or document, such as a witness, bystander, uninvolved party, or person not central to the story, we may review your request and consider additional redaction, blurring, correction, or removal where appropriate.

Minors

If a minor is identifiable in any content we have published, we will prioritize review of the request.

We do not knowingly publish identifying information about minors when it is not necessary for public understanding of a case. If identifying information involving a minor is found, we may take action to redact, blur, remove, or otherwise limit that information.

Sensitive Personal Information

If sensitive personal information appears in a document, image, video, or page and was not caught during our review process, we will review the issue promptly.

This may include:

  • Home addresses

  • Personal phone numbers

  • Email addresses

  • Social Security numbers

  • Driver’s license numbers

  • Financial information

  • Medical information

  • Juvenile information

  • Victim-sensitive information

  • Other personal identifying information

Verified Factual Errors

If content we published contains a factual error that materially misrepresents a person, event, record, or case, we may review the issue and issue a correction, update, clarification, or other appropriate response.

Please provide documentation or reliable supporting information when requesting a correction.

Safety Concerns

If you believe published information creates a credible and specific safety risk to you or your family, we will review the request on a case-by-case basis.

Please include supporting details so the concern can be properly reviewed.

Expunged, Restricted, or Sealed Records

If a record has been legally expunged, restricted, or sealed by a court, we will review certified documentation and consider what action may be appropriate.

Please note that expungement, record restriction, or sealing does not automatically require an independent media organization to remove coverage of the underlying event, public record, or case. However, we will review each situation individually.

If your record has been expunged, restricted, or sealed, please include certified court documentation with your request.

Content We Generally Do Not Remove

Because Body Cam On, Atlanta Crime Files, and Georgia Crime Files cover public records, public safety, law enforcement activity, and matters of public concern, removal is not automatic.

We generally do not remove the following categories of content solely because someone requests removal:

Arrest Records and Booking Information

Arrest records and booking information are generally matters of public record. They document government action and may be relevant to public-interest reporting.

However, we may review requests involving inaccurate information, additional context, expungement documentation, safety concerns, or sensitive personal information.

Bodycam and Dashcam Footage

Police bodycam and dashcam footage obtained through lawful public record sources documents law enforcement activity and government conduct.

Because this is core public-interest material, we generally do not remove bodycam or dashcam footage solely upon request. We may consider blurring, additional redaction, corrections, or context where appropriate.

Court Documents and Case Files

Court proceedings and court filings are generally public records. We generally do not remove court documents, case filings, or information about court proceedings solely because a request is made.

Law Enforcement Officer Conduct

Information involving the conduct of law enforcement officers, public officials, government agencies, or official duties is a matter of public interest.

We generally do not remove content documenting officer conduct, agency conduct, arrests, use-of-force incidents, or other official actions solely upon request.

Convictions

If a court has entered a conviction in a case covered by our platforms, that conviction may be part of the public record. We generally do not remove coverage of criminal convictions solely upon request.

Redaction Instead of Removal

In many situations, additional redaction, blurring, correction, or context may be more appropriate than full removal.

This may include removing private information while keeping public-records material available for viewer reference, transparency, commentary, documentary storytelling, education, and public-interest discussion.

How to Submit a Removal Request

To submit a removal, correction, redaction, or review request, please contact us through the Contact page.

Please include:

  • Your full name

  • Your contact information

  • The URL or link where the content appears

  • The title of the video, page, report, or case file

  • Your relationship to the content

  • The reason for your request

  • Any supporting documentation, if applicable

Supporting documents may include court orders, expungement records, proof of identity, proof of representation, correction documentation, or other relevant materials.

Incomplete requests may result in delays or denial. We may be unable to process anonymous or vague requests.

Our Review Process

After receiving a complete request, we may:

  • Review the content at issue

  • Review the reason for the request

  • Consider whether the material is public record or newsworthy

  • Consider privacy, safety, accuracy, and public-interest factors

  • Review any supporting documentation provided

  • Determine whether removal, redaction, correction, context, or no action is appropriate

We aim to acknowledge complete requests within 5 business days and respond with a decision within 30 days, when reasonably possible.

Some requests may take longer depending on complexity, documentation, legal review, or the amount of material involved.

Legal Requests

If you are an attorney submitting a request on behalf of a client, please identify yourself as legal counsel and include your contact information, jurisdiction, and any supporting documentation.

Formal legal requests, court orders, subpoenas, copyright claims, or other legal notices should clearly identify the nature of the request and include all required documentation.

Legal threats are not a substitute for a complete removal or legal request.

No Guarantee of Removal

Submitting a request does not guarantee removal.

Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We reserve the right to approve, deny, partially approve, redact, blur, update, correct, add context, replace a document, or take no action.

A Note to Those Affected by Our Coverage

We understand that being featured in public records, police footage, incident reports, or case coverage can be difficult and emotional.

We do not cover cases for the purpose of harming individuals or families. Our mission is public awareness, transparency, accountability, documentary storytelling, and access to information connected to Georgia law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

If you have a good-faith concern about how you or a family member appears in our content, we encourage you to contact us respectfully and directly. We will review complete requests carefully.
